Introduction
Bharat Browser ("we," "our," "us," or "the App") is a web browser application developed by DashTech. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it through our compliance with this policy.
This Privacy Policy describes the types of information we may collect from you or that you may provide when you download, install, and use Bharat Browser, and our practices for collecting, using, maintaining, protecting, and disclosing that information.
By downloading, accessing, or using Bharat Browser, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Information we collect
We collect information in the following categories:
Information you provide directly
- Bookmarks, saved pages, and reading-list entries you create — stored locally on your device only; we do not collect or receive this data
- Search queries entered in the address bar or search widget — stored locally on your device only; we do not collect or store these queries (they are sent to your selected search provider, e.g. Google, to return results)
- Account information, once sign-in and sync are introduced (e.g. name, email address) — this feature is planned and not yet available
- Feedback, support requests, or correspondence you send us
Information collected automatically
- Browsing data: browsing history, downloads history, and open tabs — currently stored locally on your device only; cross-device sync is a planned feature covered below
- Device information: device model, operating system and version, unique device identifiers, and browser version
- Usage data: features used, crash reports, and diagnostic logs to help us improve performance
- Network information: IP address, approximate location derived from IP, and network/carrier type
- Cookies and site data: generated by websites you visit through the App (see Cookies below)
- Advertising identifiers: your device's advertising ID (e.g. Google Advertising ID / Android AAID), ad interaction data (impressions, clicks), and coarse location or interest categories used to serve ads
- Analytics identifiers: app instance and installation identifiers collected via analytics and crash-reporting SDKs (see Advertising & analytics below)

How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the App's core browsing features
- Sync bookmarks, history, and settings across your devices, once account sign-in is introduced (planned feature)
- Personalize your experience, such as search suggestions and homepage shortcuts
- Show and measure advertising within the App, including personalized ads based on your advertising ID and interests, where permitted
- Understand app usage and performance through analytics, and diagnose crashes and bugs
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent, unauthorized, or illegal activity
- Communicate with you about updates, security alerts, and support matters — this will apply once account sign-in/email collection is introduced; the app does not currently collect email addresses
- Comply with applicable legal obligations
App permissions
Bharat Browser requests the following device permissions:
- Camera: for QR code scanning and visual search features, if used. The camera image is decoded on-device and is not saved, stored, or uploaded by the app
- Microphone: for voice search, if used. Audio is sent directly to Google's voice search service to process your query — Bharat Browser does not store or process the audio itself
- Location: the app does not collect or store your GPS location itself. This permission exists so that websites you visit can request your location through the browser's geolocation feature — this only happens with your explicit per-site permission, and is governed by that website's own privacy policy
- Notifications: for download completion alerts and news/content updates
You can review and revoke any permission at any time through your device's Settings app. Disabling a permission may limit related features but will not disable the App entirely.
Advertising & analytics
Bharat Browser is supported in part by advertising. We use Google AdMob to display ads within the App. AdMob operates as a mediation platform, which means it may route ad requests to other third-party ad networks (such as Meta Audience Network, Unity Ads, and similar partners) to fill ad slots. These mediation partners may independently receive your advertising ID and related ad-interaction data, subject to their own privacy policies. We also use Firebase and Google Analytics to understand how the App is used and to fix bugs.
What this involves
- Ad partners may use your advertising ID, coarse location, and general interest signals to show more relevant ads and to measure ad performance (e.g. views, clicks)
- Analytics partners collect app usage events, device information, and crash diagnostics tied to an app-instance identifier, not your name or email
- These providers may set their own cookies or identifiers and process data according to their own privacy policies

Data storage & security
Browsing data (history, bookmarks, open tabs) is currently stored locally on your device only. We plan to introduce optional account sign-in and sync in a future release; once available, synced data will be stored on our secure servers, encrypted in transit and at rest, and this policy will be updated accordingly before the feature launches.
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
As we serve users in India and internationally, information may be processed or stored on servers located outside your home country, including by our hosting, analytics, and advertising partners. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect data transferred across borders.
Your choices & rights
Bharat Browser is used by people in India and around the world. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, download, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing — for example, under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the EU/UK GDPR, or U.S. state privacy laws (such as the CCPA/CPRA), where applicable. You can exercise many of these directly within the App:
- Clear browsing history, cookies, and cache from Privacy & Security settings
- Turn sync on or off, or sign out of your account, once account sign-in is introduced
- Manage or revoke device permissions (camera, location, microphone, notifications)
- Use Incognito/Private mode for sessions you don't want saved to history
- Request account and data deletion by contacting us directly, once account sign-in is introduced — currently, we do not collect or store any account-linked personal data on our servers, so there is nothing server-side to delete; local browsing data can be cleared any time via the App's settings
To make a formal request regarding your personal data, please reach out using the details in the Contact us section. We will respond to verified requests within the timeframes required by applicable law, and may ask you to confirm your identity before fulfilling a request.
Children's privacy
Bharat Browser is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
Third-party links & services
The App allows you to browse third-party websites and use third-party search engines and services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any website or service you visit through the App.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page, with the "Last updated" date above revised accordingly. We recommend checking this page periodically for updates; we do not currently send separate in-app or email notices for policy changes.
